README FIRST! RetrOrange Pi 3.0.1 release
Posted by: alexkidd - 11-01-2016, 02:10 PM - Forum: READ ME FIRST! RetrOrange 3.0.1 release! - No Replies

DISCLAIMER

RetrOrange Pi is a non profit project.
It consists of a basic Retropie setup with most Libretro cores on top of an Armbian Jessie Desktop version pre-installed. It includes an OpenELEC fork as well.

Much of the software included in the image have non-commercial licences. Because of this, selling a pre-installed RetrOrange image is not legal, neither including it with your commercial product is. As it relies on other people’s work with our own features, we won't be offering any help in customizations to avoid rebranding or reselling.

Support the project:

If you appreciate our work, as well as our mates from Armbian, RetroPie and  OpenELEC, feel free to support the project. Just send us a pvt message and let us know how. For the moment, if we just could get more boards to test, we could probably make it better for everyone.

Support the core developers:

https://github.com/jernejsk/OpenELEC-OPi2

Installation instructions:

1. Download the latest image from
http://www.retrorangepi.org

2.
Uncompress image:
  • Linux: sudo tar zxvf imagename.tar.gz
  • Windows:  WinRAR, 7-Zip  (make sure you get a file with extension .img afterwards
Filesize is ~5GB so a minimum 8GB sdcard is required .

3.Flash image to an SD card:
  • Linux: sudo dd bs=4M if=imagename.img of=/dev/XXX (identify target with care by running ‘sudo fdisk –l’ to avoid data destruction)
  • Windows: use Win32DiskImager

4. Insert card into the board and power on

Important information:

  • In case your board does not seem to boot,  try to reformat your sd card with SDFormatter 4.0 by Trendy (with size adjustment on) or Linux GParted (delete all partitions and recreate one), try a different power supply (real 2A) and sdcard (original,  class10 recommended), and last but not least make sure to be connected to HDMI 720 compatible TV (no DVI adapters)
  • On first boot it will automatically install the system, resize sd card and reboot again, please be patient Smile

  • Default usernames and passwords are: user pi / password pi / superuser root / password orangepi

  • Emulators are already installed, but they only appear in EmulationStation when roms are added.

  • To add ROMs, simply drop files in /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/$CONSOLE folder, where $CONSOLE is the name of the target console, e.g. snes or arcade.  You can launch Desktop from EmulationStation and plug an USB drive with your ROMs. Roms folders are also samba shares.
  • Due to our custom settings, please don't run 'sudo apt-get upgrade'. It can break a few things.
HOTKEYS (except Dreamcast, PPSSPP, LinApple, Commodore...)

· Select+Start → Exit Game
· Select+Right Shoulder → Save State
· Select+Left Shoulder → Load State
· Select+Right → Save Slot Increase
· Select+Left → Save Slot Decrease
· Select+X → RetroArch Menu
· Select+B → Reset Game

Lightbulb moonbian (AKA md-debian)
Posted by: moondeck - 11-01-2016, 10:24 AM - Forum: Debian - Replies (15)

Hello everyone,
I have a build system for Debian on Orange Pi One and Orange Pi PC (+).

LAST UPDATE 12 December 2016

I do not supply images anymore. You compile them yourself.

There is support for CLI and XFCE, i can provide other display managers should someone need it, just post it here or PM me.
Also, if you want your board supported, you can be a tester, or get me a board.

The image ships with a highly-optimized kernel, Sambooca-H3, can be found here: https://github.com/SvenKayser/Sambooca-Kernel-H3
Because almost everything in the kernel is provided as a module, this allows the system to take 41 megabytes of RAM when idling.
There is no clutter, it only comes with wpa_supplicant and iw installed, to make it easier to connect to wireless networks, which is usually the case with SBCs like Orange Pi.
No custom login MOTDs, no non-free software by default. By the end of the month i am planning to set up a repository to ship kernel updates and H3-specific system utilities.
The system is shipped with sane thermal settings, you should however install at least a heat sink to cool the processor under heavy load.

My system also has support for hardware acceleration (Mali, etc.), the userspace packages will be hosted in the repo once i get it running. If someone needs it i can also post it.

For now, Orange Pi PC (+) has an both a CLI image and XFCE. Orange Pi one has only a CLI image, but a newer one is incoming, also one with XFCE.

To compile the images you are gonna need:

Device-tree-compiler
ARM GCC cross-compiler
dialog (bash utility)
build-essential on Debian (or your distro of choice)
git
a cup of tea/coffee

FOR ORANGE PI PC+ and other eMMC boards:
To install to eMMC, just type "install2emmc.sh" without the quotes into the terminal (as root) and it will do it automatically.

RESIZING THE FILESYSTEM ON SD:

Type in "fdisk /dev/mmcblk0" and press enter if running from SD
Then type "d" and press enter, type "n" and press enter 4 times. Then type in "w" and press enter, then exit fdisk.
Now, type "resize2fs /dev/mmcblk0p1" and press enter, wait for the process to finish.

Build system for the image is here:
https://github.com/m00nd3ck/md-debian

Also a website is on the way, this should be ready by the end of the month.
Please,if you have any suggestions or feature requests, do not hesitate to ask.
Also, what board should be supported next?

If you have any problem, ask away too.
