  Snow in Moscow
Posted by: Alius - 11-03-2016, 04:41 AM - Forum: Smoke Room - Replies (5)

Today in Moscow the heavy snowfall began really.
35 kilometers before operation I went more than 1 hour 30 minutes and it very quickly.
The way home as I think, will take 2-3 hours...

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - FAQ (updated Dec 26th)
Posted by: alexkidd - 11-02-2016, 09:23 AM - Forum: READ ME FIRST! RetrOrange 3.0.1 release! - No Replies

Q: What is RetrOrange Pi and what can i run with it?
A: RetrOrangePi is a gaming and media center distribution based on Armbian (Linux Debian 8), compatible with most Orange Pi boards , equipped with CPU H3 and GPU Mali 400. You'll be able to play your favorite games from the 70's, 80's and 90s, have a full desktop experience with thousands of apps from Debian repositories like Firefox, LibreOffice, GIMP, Transmission, and also OpenELEC/Kodi media center (former XBMC), where you can watch HD movies (4K possible!) and install addons like Youtube, Vevo, IPTV etc.

Q: Which games run well on RetrOrange Pi?
A: As long as the dump is good ALL games should run fine on ANY board up to the Sony Playstation. Things get hit and miss on Dreamcast, MAME, N64 and PSP. Games like Super Mario 64, Mario Kart, Zelda OOT (N64), Ultimate Ghosts n Goblins, LittleBigPlanet, GTA Vice City (PSP), Crazy Taxi, Sonic Adventure and Shenmue (Dreamcast) are some examples of games that run fine with a few minor issues. Conker (N64) and God of War (PSP) are not playable. Take a look at our video section

Q: How can i install this application?
A: RetrOrange Pi is not a single application. It's a full system that has to be copied to an SD card and inserted in a compatible board. Take a look at the download/install instructions.

Q: Every time that I create the image in the SD card, it says it is not possible to mount it or it is corrupted. I cannot copy my roms.
A: Filesystem is EXT4(linux-only) , so you won’t be able to open/access it from inside Windows, unless you install a 3rd party application like Paragon or Ext2SD. Connect a flash drive to your board and use Desktop option in the main launcher to be able to copy roms with ease.

Q: My board does not boot or all I got is a black screen:
A: Things to try: reformat SD card with Panasonic SD formatter => reflash image with DD(linux) or Win32diskimager (windows) => change power supply (most likely!!!!!)

Q: Is it possible to exclude Desktop or Kodi sections from EmulationStation main menu ?
A: Yes, just move desktop and kodi folders from /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ somewhere else. If you want to recover, just move them back .

Q: What do I do to change resolution or my screen connection?

A: Run from command line : ‘sudo h3disp’ to check available modes and run it again with correct parameters

Q: I already copied my roms/games, but they don’t appear in the list
A: EmulationStation will search for specific extension for each platform. Check file /home/pi/.emulationstation/es_systems.cfg . Press Ctrl H in file manager to view hidden folders. There are specific tweaks though; N64 roms with .zip extension can be set with the following command in a Desktop terminal window:

Code:
sudo pluma /home/pi/.emulationstation/es_systems.cfg

add .zip .ZIP to the extension section of n64 platform.

Q: How to change boot splashscreen?
A: Replace /home/pi/RetroPie/splashscreens/splash.png

Q: In Kodi (not OpenELEC), I can’t see movie progress/subtitles or quit the video.
A: Kodi application uses MPV as external player for hardware acceleration. Because of that, OSD is not available and only keyboard shortcuts work. For example, to quit video, press Q, to fast forward, press right or up. Refer to MPV manual : https://mpv.io/manual/stable/ for more information.

Q:  Some games just don't run. They return to main screen.
If your emulator does not run any of your ROMS, check if the system requires a BIOS and that it is in the /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS folder.  If it's a MAME/NeoGeo rom, take a look at this thread.

You can also check the output of the error, by running from terminal :

Code:
cat /dev/shm/runcommand.log

Q: How to install new EmulationStation themes?
A: Go to Retropie - Retropie-Setup - Configuration - ES Themes. Keep in mind not all of the themes available for download are complete i/e the system you’re trying to emulate doesn’t have a section yet. https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Set...tion-Theme has a tutorial on creating and editing themes.

From Retropie wiki:

"There is a fundamental bug with EmulationStation where unique background images are not loaded dynamically so if you have more than ~10 systems (on most themes that have a unique wallpaper per system) you will start to get a white screen of death and nothing will show up.

There are a few things you can do to fix the white screen of death:
  • remove some systems
  • switch your theme to any Carbon, Pixel, Eudora, Turtle-Pi, or Canela variant (as they have one static background and therefore don't crash when you have many systems)

If you can't access the theme changer in emulationstation because it's a white screen, you can ssh into the pi and change the theme name back to carbon in the backend in /home/pi/.emulationstation/es_settings.cfg"

  HOWTO - display from 3.5mm/RCA CVBS audio/video
Posted by: alexkidd - 11-01-2016, 07:49 PM - Forum: HOWTOs - Replies (18)

CVBS A/V audio/video output tutorial
(assuming you have a working system with HDMI output)]

1. Select DESKTOP from EmulationStation menu

2. Open Applications Menu, select Terminal Emulator

3. Create TV OUT script:

a. Convert original script.bin to fex editable:

Code:
sudo bin2fex /boot/script.bin /home/pi/tvout.fex

b. Edit file to your needs:
Code:
sudo pluma /home/pi/tvout.fex

c. Change following parameters and save file:

i. disp_init_enable = 1
ii. disp_mode = 1
iii. screen0_output_type = 2
iv. screen1_output_type = 2
v. screen0_output_mode = 14 (11 for PAL)
vi. screen1_output_mode = 14 (11 for PAL)
vii. hdmi_used = 0
viii. tv_used = 1

d. Create TV script:
Code:
sudo fex2bin /home/pi/tvout.fex /boot/bin/tvout.bin

e. Backup existing script.bin and create new one based on tv settings:
Code:
sudo cp /boot/script.bin /home/pi

Code:
sudo cp /boot/bin/tvout.bin /boot/script.bin

f. Edit module to be loaded at boot:
Code:
sudo pluma /etc/modules

g. add ‘tv’ to the end of the file (below ump, mali, etc)

4. Audio settings

Code:
sudo pluma /etc/asound.conf
sudo pluma ~/.asoundrc
change all instances in both files: card 1 -> card 0
change "hw:1,0" to "hw:0,0"

Code:
sudo pluma /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg
audio_device = "hw:1,0" -> audio_device = "hw:0,0"
audio_driver = "alsa" -> audio_driver = "sdl2"

if you've already played the emulator before, you might also have to change platform specific config file, for example:

Code:
sudo pluma /opt/retropie/configs/atari2600/retroarch.cfg

And unmute analog out:
Code:
amixer -c 0 set "Audio lineout" unmute

Plus, if you play videos with Kodi (mpv), audio comes from hdmi. If you want audio to analog out edit file
Code:
sudo pluma /home/pi/.kodi/userdata/playercorefactory.xml

where says:CARD=sndhdmi , change to CARD=audiocodec

HOWTO - eMMC install script for Ropi
Posted by: Harryzimm - 11-01-2016, 05:54 PM - Forum: HOWTOs - Replies (30)

Here is the emmc install script. Its for testers only, we think its working fine but we could use your help to test so we can include in the next release.
After downloading , you can install with

Code:
sudo tar -xvf emmc.install-ropi.tar.gz -C /

Don't forget to restart emulation-station and you can find the script in the retro-pie menu (see pics)
If you have installed to emmc before using dd, It's recommended to use this new script as it properly formats the emmc, creates partitions and uses rsync to copy files over.

HOWTO - Can't run MAME / NEOGEO roms ? Check this thread.
Posted by: alexkidd - 11-01-2016, 02:32 PM - Forum: HOWTOs - Replies (3)

From Retropie WIKI:

Arcade ROMs are tied to the version of the arcade emulator, because the definition of what is the "correct" contents and usage of the ROM can change from version to version of the emulator.

For example, MAME2003 is based off the MAME 0.78 source code, so you must use the MAME 0.78 ROM set with MAME2003. If you use ROMs which are from an earlier or later MAME version, such as 0.50 or 0.100 or 0.173, then those ROMs probably will not work with MAME2003 because that other version's definition of the correct ROM is different from 0.78's definition of the correct ROM.

More info here: https://github.com/retropie/retropie-set...aging-ROMs

A very useful tool to update your roms to desired romset is by installing CLRMAME PRO. Check video tutorial below:

DISCLAIMER

RetrOrange Pi is a non profit project.
It consists of a basic Retropie setup with most Libretro cores on top of an Armbian Jessie Desktop version pre-installed. It includes an OpenELEC fork as well.

Much of the software included in the image have non-commercial licences. Because of this, selling a pre-installed RetrOrange image is not legal, neither including it with your commercial product is. As it relies on other people’s work with our own features, we won't be offering any help in customizations to avoid rebranding or reselling.

Support the project:

If you appreciate our work, as well as our mates from Armbian, RetroPie and  OpenELEC, feel free to support the project. Just send us a pvt message and let us know how. For the moment, if we just could get more boards to test, we could probably make it better for everyone.

Support the core developers:

https://github.com/jernejsk/OpenELEC-OPi2

Installation instructions:

1. Download the latest image from
http://www.retrorangepi.org

2.
Uncompress image:
  • Linux: sudo tar zxvf imagename.tar.gz
  • Windows:  WinRAR, 7-Zip  (make sure you get a file with extension .img afterwards
Filesize is ~5GB so a minimum 8GB sdcard is required .

3.Flash image to an SD card:
  • Linux: sudo dd bs=4M if=imagename.img of=/dev/XXX (identify target with care by running ‘sudo fdisk –l’ to avoid data destruction)
  • Windows: use Win32DiskImager

4. Insert card into the board and power on

Important information:

  • In case your board does not seem to boot,  try to reformat your sd card with SDFormatter 4.0 by Trendy (with size adjustment on) or Linux GParted (delete all partitions and recreate one), try a different power supply (real 2A) and sdcard (original,  class10 recommended), and last but not least make sure to be connected to HDMI 720 compatible TV (no DVI adapters)
  • On first boot it will automatically install the system, resize sd card and reboot again, please be patient Smile

  • Default usernames and passwords are: user pi / password pi / superuser root / password orangepi

  • Emulators are already installed, but they only appear in EmulationStation when roms are added.

  • To add ROMs, simply drop files in /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/$CONSOLE folder, where $CONSOLE is the name of the target console, e.g. snes or arcade.  You can launch Desktop from EmulationStation and plug an USB drive with your ROMs. Roms folders are also samba shares.
  • Due to our custom settings, please don't run 'sudo apt-get upgrade'. It can break a few things.
