I installed an older YouTube addon version from zip (5.3.12 IIRC), I don't think it's glshim, they're at same version

So do you have any idea or suggestion what to try next?
Maybe send your files so i replace mine with them and see if it works that way?

i seem to have found the culprit. MPV uses quvi scripts to play Youtube videos, a high failure rate with 403 forbidden error.
SO, to be able to watch youtube, i created a dirty script to use youtube-dl instead, with Chromium

so, it's something like this:

Too dark man, too dark. Now i dont want to do anything, let alone bother with youtube or addon not playing videos Sad.
Jk , love pink Floyd Smile

The idea is making things work in kodi , while this is nice to know it can be done this way, its bit impractical.
I have a image of a backup from my old install that worked i think, but it is on a corrupt drive. Windows just wont copy the file, so ill try with ubunty and if im successfull il post here the output in terminal.

btw, how does Openelec do it and both the addon and youtube work?Is it using some different approach?

RE: Kodi videos wont play - alexkidd - 05-07-2018

OpenELEC has hardware acceleration built into the internal video player, so it does not have to rely on sometimes buggy external player like MPV. The port is a piece of art by Jernej Škrabec, which seems to be away from the community lately, so dont expect any improvement.

I'm getting Youtube to work in Kodi for most videos. I'll see if i can edit MPV execute line in Kodi to override quvi with youtube-dl, just dont hold your breath for days.

Sure , not holding my breath for anything. Its free software after all, do it at your own pace, gratefull for what it is.

Since like you say MPV has issues, is it doable changing the player to VLC or OMX, and could a linux beginner like me do it with instructions provided? OR is it way more technical and complicated?

no kodi 17 playback - cAroed - 05-18-2018

Hello, i've been trying to get kodi to work but have had no success at all. When I open any video, it just tries to open - just shows the ticker up top and goes back like nothing ever happened, And also when i try to access the repository it fails most of the time and when it does - when i try to install any addon it tells me that "Installation failed".
I'm using an OPi One with the latest image available. Anyone could help me here, am i missing anything?
