HOWTO - eMMC install script for Ropi
#21
two things to try, both must boot from sdcard:

1. install gparted on armbian desktop in sdcard (sudo apt-get install gparted), run it and delete emmc partition (should be /dev/mmcblk1), then try to run emmc installer again
2. if 1 fails, repeat gparted process, but instead of running installer, copy the image to an usb drive , plug it in, mount the drive, then run the command: "sudo dd bs=1024 if=/yourdrive/yourfolder/retrorangepi.img of=/dev/mmcblk1"

Hello, would this procedure also work for orange pc plus? Remembering that in my case the url has already been urged and I can not delete it.

Thank you

After downloading , you can install with

Code:
sudo tar -xvf emmc.install-ropi.tar.gz -C /

Don't forget to restart emulation-station and you can find the script in the retro-pie menu (see pics)
If you have installed to emmc before using dd, It's recommended to use this new script as it properly formats the emmc, creates partitions and uses rsync to copy files over.

which folder i have to copy   emmc.install-ropi.tar.gz ?

The '-C /' at the end of the command tells tar to extract the files based on root '/' so the file should be extracted to /home/pi/RetroPie/retropiemenu/icons/

if you restart emulation station it should show up as one of your options now

  1. Turn off your board
  2. Reinsert your SD card with RetrOrange Pi
  3. Turn on your board
  4. Go to Desktop and open a terminal window
  5. Backup your boot files: run ‘cp /boot/boot* ~/’
  6. Run ‘sudo pluma /boot/*.cmd’
  7. In file boot-retro.cmd , change /dev/mmcblk0p3 to /dev/mmcblk1p3
  8. In file boot.kodi.cmd, change to boot=/dev/mmcblk1p1 and disk= /dev/mmcblk1p2
  9. Save all files and close Pluma
  10. Run ‘sudo mkimage –C none –A arm –T script –d /boot/boot-retro.cmd /boot/boot.scr
  11. Leave SD card inside slot and reboot board: sudo reboot
These commands are modifying the Sd or the EMMC.
My goal is boot from EMMC with a single parted SD inside just for data.

On Armbian forum i found a similar thead but it ends with a generic suggestion about SPL signature.
But no info how to remove it.

Two options with Allwinner SoCs since boot priority on all known devices is 'SD card first, then eMMC'

  • the SD card gets ignored if there is no SPL signature found. In this case to be able to boot from SD card you would have to exchange SD card

  • the SD card contains a valid SPL signature (and at least u-boot). In this case the settings on SD card have to switch to eMMC for normal boots but you could setup things in a way that an alternative OS could be booted from SD card too
The 2nd approach with our current implementation (relying on device nodes and not UUIDs) is somewhat tricky/broken so better wait for fixes (relying on UUIDs and also needing some tweaks for u-boot installation postinstall script)

Regards.
Enrico.

Check second post of this howto. You can flash full image to emmc, then remove all contents from sd (except the first partition). You'll need boot.scr pointing to /dev/mmcblk1p3 , sd must be inserted when booting.

to flash the bootloader
sudo dd if=/usr/lib/linux-u-boot-XXXXXXXXX_5.23_armhf/u-boot-sunxi-with-spl.bin of=/dev/mmcblk1 bs=1024 seek=8 (change block devices accordingly)
