#31
if you're using armbian, copy to /root/build/userpatches/kernel/sun8i-default/ , IIRC

I was able to successfully compile the kernel with the modified patch. Copied over the appropriate files.
I got it to boot, it now reads 2 controllers and all directions on the joysticks now work.
However I have another issue which was present before doing the patch.
My coin buttons do not register and player 2 start button does not always register .
It's not a wiring or microswitch issue as the same setup works properly with the stock software.
Slowly making some progress.

Glad to hear you got over that. I know it's painful but once you figure it all out you know the drill. Hopefully you get your other problems ironed out!

Thanks for your help. I would not have gotten this far without it.

So it turns out it's a hardware issue. I plugged the usb cable into my windows computer to test it and in windows it does not register all the buttons either.
The software that comes on the board is android based and I think it uses gpio pins for the buttons and joysticks.
So I guess I'm going to try to figure out how to get retrorangepi to read the buttons and joysticks through gpio drivers.

Thumbs Up
Nice to see you again @akira84, and you are compiling kernel as well Smile

I have a similar board, Pandora Games X from 'mengxipeng' our old friend who sold the 'original' pb4x that was decently hackable.
This cost me around $50 for the Jamma based one.

Anyway, mine came with a 2600-in-1 card(720p or CGA) and a prefab retropie (vga/hdmi 720p only at the moment.)
It's got 1GB ram Smile

For the GPIO joystick the opi image on my board is using the "mk_arcade_joystick" but it's renamed.

You probably need to figure out which gpio pins they are using on your board (I still need to do the same for mine).
They left some clues in the dmesg:

Code:
[    9.577243] GPIO_BASE01c20800
[    9.580599] mk_dev_base:01c20000
[    9.584203] mk_gpio_reg:f1c20800
[    9.587812] GPIO configured for pad0
[    9.592487] GPIO configured for pad1
I've attached a picture of the board. Here's a dmesg from a 512M Ram unit:
https://pastebin.com/vfknnLH3
I'm not 100% happy with it yet. I've got 640x480 working on my arcade monitor, but nothing scales decently except 320x240 games.
I'll need some way to try & get CGA kernel modelines + x + emulators in 320x224 and such from the VGA port.
The default 2600 image seems to have un-amplified CGA as the picture is super dim on my screen(s) when i try to use it. I need to check if i can improve it with a THS7314 based amp or something like that.
Anyway when i have the time i'll upload my SD dump somewhere and voila. I need to clean it up, there's 32GB and it's not just retropi.
In theory the supplier has locked the card to my device, i want to check if this is true Smile
