Is the Plus2e worth buying
#1
I have a Opi PC plus version 1G. Now I am considering the Plus2E, (H3 version with 2GB mem)
I am wondering is the 2GB memory worth it, or will performance be only slightly better.
If anyone has experience with the Plus 2E version please let me know.

I am working on a Opi bartop arcade and maybe this would be a great addition.

Hello djcasl,
did you face any performance issue with 1GB ram?
I am thinking which version opi I should buy for my project.
I want to emulate DOS games and MAME.

2GB should give no noticeable difference. CPU and GPU are the same.

i have test many SBC Boards and iam can say not the Memory is the Problem the GPU Speed and Driver is it

Raspberry PI3, Big Community, the board is not a Big Deal.. slow GPU only DDR2
PSP, Dreamcast, N64 works not good

OrangePI One/Lite/PC good Board with enought CPU-Speed, DDR3, MALI 400MP2 GPU
good Settung the Problem is the GPU Driver... look this thread (http://orangepi.club/showthread.php?tid=...37#pid6837)
you see the PI Lite with 512MB Ram can Run N64 in Full-HD with the right drivers and settings
the problem is not the ram, only on Dreamcast and PSP upscaled you have a benefit with more ram

Odroid-XU4 this board is great, 8 cores and a MALI T628MP6 with 2GB Ram
play Dreamcast without issues, play Sega-Saturn, play PSP on 3x-6x resolution, N64 without issues
the problem on the board is the retropie distribution(ORA) is not bug free, here is a lot to mend

Tinkerboard hast 4 cores, Mali-T764 with 2GB Ram
the board hast a small community and starts now really with retropie, the community need many time to speedup the board.
Retropie (ROTT) has many bugs, the board is now not good, can play only N64 007@23fps 480p resolution
the board cost 20% more than the odroid-xu4 and is slower!

how to speedup your PC Plus
-install big alu heatsinks on RAM and CPU(SoC) with a good thermal grease and glue not with a pad!
-lets blow a fan on your PI
-edit the script.bin to speedup the mali gpu (http://orangepi.club/showthread.php?tid=...17#pid6817)
-speedup the DDR3 set in the script.bin 648Mhz speed (https://linux-sunxi.org/Orange_Pi_PC)
-set the CPU Speed up to 1296Mhz (armbian limit without recompile) (https://linux-sunxi.org/Orange_Pi_PC)

thermalgrease: https://eu.coolermaster.com/de/cooling/t...ential-e1/
thermalglue: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/2-st-cke-...ea4ac46f-1
heatsinks: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/White-Blu...3c00dPfNuS

my Orange PI PC runs @1296Mhz, 648Mhz DDR3, MALI 600Mhz (fixed, default only 575)   35-40°c @ full load

my results
Orange PI PC @1200MHz, 624Mhz DDR3 (default) without heatsink  70-85°c
Orange PI PC @1200MHz, 624Mhz DDR3 (default) "with heatsink thermalpad" 65-70°c
Orange PI PC @1200MHz, 624Mhz DDR3 (default) "with heatsink thermalgrease and glue"  50-55°c
Orange PI PC @1200MHz, 624Mhz DDR3 (default) "with heatsink thermalgrease and glue and FAN30x30"  30°c
Orange PI PC @1296MHz, 648Mhz DDR3 (OC) "with heatsink thermalgrease and glue and FAN30x30"  35-40°c

i have the thermalgrease thin applied on the ram and cpu(soc), on the outside around of the ram chip and soc chip i have give the termal glue and fixed the heatsink, 1-2 hours wait to dry

all other performance boost is software based

with the right PSP-Settings you can run Assassin's Creed, Tekken Dark Resurrection, Sega Rallye Revo, FF7 Crisis Core with 2x resoltion and good image quality with 90-100% speed
80-100% = Orange PI Lite/One 1200Mhz, 648Mhz DDR3 OC
80-100% = Orange PI PC (Plus) 1200Mhz Default
90-100%= Orange PI PC (Plus) 1296MHz, 648Mhz DDR3 OC

I want to  emulate DOS games and MAME.

Currently I am running my Opi Lite in my Mini-Arcade, don't have DOS games emulated. But So far MAME, NeoGeo, NES, SNES, Sega Megadrive and stuff runs fine. MAME 3D games might give you some issues haven't tested that yet. I mostly play the old-skool games.
